About the Artist
Kaleema Lewis is a self-taught visual artist based in Jersey City, New Jersey. She has been drawing and sketching since the age of six, developing a natural eye for form, emotion, and storytelling through visual expression. Her journey into painting began in 2015, when a piece she casually shared on social media was unexpectedly purchased, which was an affirming moment that sparked her commitment to creating and sharing her art with a wider audience.
Entirely self-driven, Kaleema has never received formal training in drawing or painting. Instead, her work reflects years of intuitive practice, exploration, and a deep connection to creativity, which she considers a purposeful gift from God.
In 2020, she launched Kaleema Lewis Art (KLA), now a registered Small Business Enterprise (SBE) and a certified Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) in the state of New Jersey. KLA is a growing collection of original works inspired by Kaleema’s desire to showcase authentic beauty through expressive visual storytelling. Her art is rooted in Afrocentrism, layered with urban flair, and deeply influenced by her Caribbean heritage… resulting in pieces that are both bold and soulful.
